Youth Introduction to Canoe & Kayak Racing

A 3-hour introduction to canoe and kayak racing provides beginning students with the opportunity to learn about the sport of Olympic Canoe and Kayak Flatwater Sprint Racing, learn safety and paddling basics and participate in mini races. Under the supervision of our expert coaching staff, participants will paddle on the calm and protected waters of Lake Washington in 10-person Voyageur canoes and single sit-on-top kayaks.

Then advance to Cascade’s Learn to Race Flatwater Sprint Canoes and Kayaks!

Would you like to be on the water and part of a team competing in individual, double and four-person events.  The 4th largest Olympic sport, Canoe/Kayak racing combines skill, teamwork, endurance and strength in single, double and four-person boats.   With this life-long sport, we strive to help you develop your physical capacities, as well as learn important life skills such as love of sport and exercise, goal setting, discipline, and passion for life.  Lifelong friendships are formed, experiences are shared, and character is built. The sixth ranked team in the United States; at Cascade we incorporate the latest scientific training methods in developing great paddlers and great people.  Everyone in our program paddles every day in an atmosphere of challenge and self-discovery.  And, we have lots of fun!  The skills learned in this program are a prerequisite for our sprint-racing team.

Cascade Team members have competed in the Junior World Championships in Germany, The Olympic Hopes Regatta in Poland, Lake Placid International Regatta in New York and US National Championships in Oklahoma City, Gainesville , Georgia and Seattle, Washington.  Currently, 6 or our team members are on the US National Development Team – 1 in women’s kayak, 1 in men’s kayak and 4 in men’s canoe,

Our Team is lead by former US National Team member, National Team Coach and 1997 & 2003 World Championships US National Team Leader, Dan Henderson.

Prerequisite      Swim 50 yards and be comfortable in and around the water. No Prior canoe or kayak experience is required.
