Youth Canoe & Kayak Sprint Racing Team 2007

Compete in a coeducational program where youth can develop flatwater Canoe & Kayak racing skills with our expert coaching staff. Have fun while building self-confidence, life skills, efficient paddling technique, endurance and strength and pursuing goals. Seasonal and year-round training groups compete at a variety of levels in age-group competitions, including National Championships. The racing season begins in May and runs through September. Our coaching staff has taught and coached competitive paddlers from beginners to Olympians, including members of the 2000 & 2004 US Olympic Teams. You set your goals; coaches guide you so you have a high likelihood of achieving them.

Our Team is lead by former US National Team member, National Team coach and 2003 US National Team Leader, Dan Henderson. Dan also co-authored the International Canoe Federation (The World and Olympic governing body for Canoe & Kayak racing) Coaching Manual and serves as Director of Coaching Development for USA Canoe/Kayak.

Youth Canoe & Kayak Learn to Race on Flatwater 2007

Do you like being on the water, being part of a team competing in individual and multi-person events. The 4th largest Olympic sport, Canoe/Kayak racing combines skill, teamwork, endurance and strength in single, double and four-person canoe and kayak events. With this life-long sport, we strive to help you develop your physical capacities, as well as learn important life skills such as love of sport and exercise, goal setting, discipline, and passion for life. Lifelong friendships are formed, experiences are shared, and character is built.

At Cascade we incorporate the latest scientific training methods in developing great paddlers and great people. Every one in our program paddles every day in an atmosphere of challenge and self-discovery. And, we have lots of fun! The skills learned in this program are a prerequisite for our sprint-racing team.

Our Team is lead by former US National Team member, National Team coach and 2003 World Championships US National Team Leader, Dan Henderson.

No Prior canoe or kayak experience is required.

Prerequisite: Swim 50 yards, be confident in swimming ability and comfortable in the water

Schedule: Spring Session: May 1 – June 14, Tu, Th & Fr 4:30-7:00, 7 weeks, then race with our team in Seattle on June 17 & 18 and train and race throughout the summer
Summer Session: June 25 – July 20, Mo - Fr 11:30-1:00, 4 weeks, then race with our team in Renton on July 21 & 22 and train and race throughout the summer

Youth Summer Afternoon Camps 2007

Cascade Canoe and Kayak Centers is the premier paddling school for youth programs in the Northwest. It’s fun goofing around in little boats! Learn to paddle with your class in the 10-person Voyageur canoe and in your own single kayak. Build self-esteem, confidence, strength and conditioning. Learn boating safety and paddling skills in a playful environment of fun and self-discovery. It’s wet, wild, and wonderful.

One-week afternoon camps are offered from the Enatai Beach Boathouse in Bellevue and the Cedar River Boathouse in Renton, both on Lake Washington. Campers must be comfortable in the water and be confident of their swimming ability.

Youth Watersports Day Camp - (Canoe, Kayak, Sail, Swim 2007)

Become a great boater! In this weeklong full-day camp you will learn to canoe, kayak and sail, with swimming on the beach. Canoe and kayak during the morning, swim midday and sail in the afternoon. This program is in partnership with the Renton Sailing Club. It’s a great program for all-around boating skill development!
